Grey day

Branch
Reflection of trees
It started out as a grey day today. Cold and dreary. The absence of the sun  makes soft reflections in water. Boy, it was difficult not to wish I was in a tropical country where the sun was out, colours were abundant and everybody was happy.

No, it was not like that at all. But all situations have their advantages. I love for example, the reflections I saw today. Once you accept where you are, you start seeing.

Little angel

Isn't he (or is it a she?) a cutie? I walked past these pots loads of times and all of a sudden, today, the little angel was there. My eye fell on it and it's proverbial arrow hit my heart.

Snow again

It started snowing again last night and it snowed all day today. Just when I was tired of winter and was looking forward to Spring so much. Alas, it was cold, grey and little flocks came down.

After my first hesitation, I could enjoy it though. Marianne (the statue in my friend's garden) seemed oblivious to all my thoughts and stood smiling in her white surroundings. I like the way the snow left a trace in her hair.

Morning pictures

I took a few pictures last week and this week in the morning, just before going to work. As it is getting lighter in the morning now, the colours can be quite amazing.

A bit of sky

It was cold today even though you wouldn't think so. Blue sky and sunny, but the wind was ice cold. As I looked up from work, I saw the condensation on the windows and through it, the clouds.

Hint of Spring

I was off to the Hortus Botanicus (botanical garden of our university) yesterday and spotted this wonderful blossom in the Japanese garden. When I went there again today, it was gone, so I was glad to have taken this picture.

What I like about it, is that it is a promise of Spring. Oh, flowers! And I love the different shades of the background.

Buddha with coins

This weekend, when I was walking through town, I spotted this beautiful Buddha in a shop. I like the waved pattern of his clothes: the way it curves  around his belly and how it comes down to his feet (not visible).

When I looked a little longer, I saw that somebody had put a few coins in his hands. That felt somehow a bit bizarre. The statue wasn't put there to collect coins, but thinking about it: Buddha lived on gifts, too.

Back to work

Back from Venice and also back at work. It is not easy going back to working routines after a week of relaxation, fun, and visual & culinary happiness.

These pictures I took during my lunch break yesterday. The ice and snow were melting rapidly. Does that mean winter is over?

Venice: colour

I took so many pictures in Venice, that I decided to post them in batches and each batch has a theme. Yesterday's theme was water and reflection, today's is colour. Most of these colourful pictures are actually taken on Burano, one of the islands close to Venice. Burano is known for its colorful houses and lace.
Even the laundry is colourful.
Shadow of a lamppost on a blue wall.

Broom hanging outside a pink house.

Bicycle (!) in front of a lilac shop.

Reflection of orange and blue house.

Green and brick red house.

Yellow chair in front of a blue house.
Coloured doors at Zattere.

Glasswork of Murano.
Lamp on an orange wall.

Lace on a window sill.

Us in Venice

Costume stress is over, here we are in Venice! The city is such a great back drop for costuming, it just feels right to walk around in costumes. See for yourselves.

Back from Venice

Yes, I'm back and it was fantastic! Great city, wonderful weather, great costumes and lovely company. One of the things that I love most about Venice is the water, the canals. They are everywhere, full of reflection, and the colour is an emerald green that I have not seen anywhere else.

Off to Venice

Canals of Venice, 2007

I'm off to Venice for a week now. Don't know if I have internet access over there, so I'll probably post my next entry next week.

My mask and bag in 2007
The last time I was there was in 2007. I am curious to what has all changed and what hasn't.
