Expositie / exhibition on Lartigue

This afternoon I went to the exhibition of French photographer Jacques Henri Lartigue. Just on my own I leisurely walked with my camera in my hand from my house along side the canals to FOAM where the exhibition is hosted. To be honest I'd never heard of this photographer and I went to see it not only because of the positive feedback two of my Miksang friends gave me, but also because of the colourful and pleasant photograph above which is placed on the website of FOAM.

The exhibition shows his colour shots from the beginning of the 20th century. His photographs are fresh, surprising, simple, everyday and enjoyable. Most of his photos look like they are posed, but prove to be captures from his everyday life. The exhibition ends on 3 April.

Laatste workshop Contemplatieve Fotografie, dag 1

Last weekend I went to the last part in the Miksang contemplative photography curriculum: Miksang 5 Infinite Unfolding. The theme for the whole weekend was stratification and complexity; about not having expectations, but having the confidence that it will unfold itself, whatever it is. We deepened our skill of seeing the complexity of the world which is layered, rich and varied.

reflected flags
Stratification and complexity can be found in reflections, stratification of i.e. buildings, moments with people, space awareness with people or moments and the aspect of space with stratification.

We studied aspects which we have not studied before and we can only do that by not having expectations. We need trust and stability for that. Without expectations we have confidence that it will unfold itself, because there are endless perceptions. If you have inner space, you can see everything. Of you are stable inside, you can remain calm in a busy environment and you don't get involved in the stories around you. Since it was a calm and overcast day, this was relatively easy to do.

Ambassadeurschap / ambassador of Contemplative photografie

Meet us, the first Dutch Miksang graduates! Ambassadors of Clear Seeing & Joyful Photographic Expression. I felt so proud and happy to be 'graduating' on this path of fresh perceptions without expectations nor judgements, simply expressing myself with my camera. Graduating is of course impossible, but it is the end of the curriculum of this dharma art which path I started to walk about five years ago. I can't image my life without and it gives me so much happiness that I wouldn't be without it.

Expositie / exhibition: Double Dutch

twin 1

The exhibition area of Vrije Universiteit shows a selection from the series 'Double Dutch' by photographers Monique Eller and Bodine Koopmans. This area is close to the large event halls where symposia and academic procedures take place, so the exhibition had already taken my attention.
twin 3
twin 4
The photographers have taken pictures of Dutch twins aged 3 to 93 in close cooperation with the NTR, the Dutch Twin Register of Vrije Universiteit.
twin 5
twin 6
The photographs clearly show the resemblance and differences between the twins, but also their mutual attachment.
twin 7
My sister has dizygotic twins en they have fascinated ever since they were babies. Now they are in their teens and their individual characters are more evident.

The Green Diet

green smoothie

Last week I ate greens all week to detox my body. A housemate of mine was going to do it and I looked on the internet for inspiration and my body just said YES! The colour green just splashed off the page, apparently it was the right time for me to start. I've wanted to eat less sandwiches with cheese for years, but I always dreaded the fuss. I was afraid to spend a lot of time with food, but in the end that turned out better than I expected. Over here I found a list of what to eat, I did the groceries and just started.
In the morning I prepared a green smoothie with a Granny Smith, avocado, green pear and lots of veggies. For lunch I prepared the evening before a salade based on green lentls or mung beans and for dinner I prepared something simple with greens. I don't have a lot of pictures to show because in the morning I didn't have any time and in the evening the light was fading too soon as you can see in the picture right above.
It feels really good that I have done this, on the first day I had a bit of a headache because of the toxins and I was irritated within seconds (goes to show how much you put away with eating). After a week I felt lighter (in mass) and cleaner. For the mean time I'll stick with packed lunches!

Motiv: tree and sky

motiv: tree and sky
Now that the days are lengthening again and it is still light when I get home from work, it makes it worth my while to pick up a motiv again. I've done this in the past, but winters are rather a dark period in Holland to do this regurlarly. Nowadays, I take a shot or two before I leave for work and after I come home. Sometimes the colours of the sunrise or sundown are pretty amazing.

I've taken these photos from an tilting window which I have to hold up with one hand, in the other hand is my DSLR which makes it a bit difficult to get the cut-out identical in all the pictures. Anyways, looking at these photos I'm sure you get the point of it: the world around us is never the same and if you take time to really notice it a world of abundance is unfolding.
